flExam - flexible examination dates

The project

flExam was launched in the winter semester 2022/23 as an extended pilot project for digital in-person exams. Students are able to book their examination dates (slots) flexibly within the framework of fixed examination weeks.

The advantages

The use of flExam reduces the organizational workload for instructors at the university. As students have several examination dates at the end of the semester, there is less need to take into account clashes with examinations of other courses. This not only increases examination activity, but also increases room utilization. Incidentally, the proctorization is provided centrally by us.

Experience report and outlook

Experience report and outlook

Bernhard Bitterer (uniIT) presents the project in more detail and provides insights into the handling of flExam exams. Afterwards, Dr. Karl Gruber (Institute of Molecular Biosciences) shares his previous experiences with flExam exams from the perspective of an instructor.

FAQs

flExam not only gives students more flexibility, but also benefits you as an instructor. The central handling and execution of exams by the flExam team allows you to use your time resources elsewhere. The flExam team can also assist you with the development or editing of exam questions.

If you are interested in further information, please contact the flExam team: flexam(at)uni-graz.at

The earlier you announce your wish to participate, the better we can plan together. Ideally, you should register with the flExam team about 1 month before the planned exam date. If you need help with the switch from analog to digital exam modality, we also ask you to register with the flExam team as early as possible in order to be able to offer sufficient support. As the number of flExam exams is constantly increasing, we can only accept new participants upon request.

There is an exam bundle every month (except for January and August). An exam bundle consists of several slots or dates within one week, from which students can freely choose a date. It is not compulsory to take part in every bundle.

If you are already conducting exams with Perception, first create an assessment appointment in UNIGRAZonline. Link your assessment to Perception as usual. Then link the existing exam to flExam and choose the desired exam week. When exporting, make sure that you click on "flExam Export". If you have any questions or need help, you can contact us at flexam(at)uni-graz.at.

The flExam team is already working on a way to delegate work steps. Currently, all the necessary steps on the flExam website must be carried out by you.

You can import and grade the exam results from Perception as usual.

The flExam bundles are held in one of the following rooms:

  • Examination room Schuhmeister at the University Center Wall, Merangasse 70, 8010 Graz on the first floor.
  • Examination rooms Touaillon and Zach, Mozartgasse 14, 8010 Graz on the first floor.

You will be informed in advance by e-mail which examination room is reserved for the respective bundles.

Yes, board examinations can also be processed via flExam. For the exact procedure, please contact us at flexam(at)uni-graz.at.
