Moodle

The central learning platform at the University of Graz

Every course in the UNIGRAZonline at the University of Graz is automatically linked to a Moodle course. In order for a course to be an efficient guide for students, it is important to organize the content in a structured way and provide all important information in one place. In addition, the Moodle platform provides a place where students can interact with the content, the teacher, and other students.

Courses with continuous assessment are characterized by the ongoing active participation of students and the grading of tasks and assignments. The Moodle learning platform supports a variety of methods and settings. Depending on the learning objectives, different types of Moodle activities are available, which are suitable for individual, pair and group work and especially for asynchronous learning phases. Courses without continuous assessment (lectures) also benefit from Moodle courses that are clearly laid out and well prepared in terms of content. In addition to the provision of course materials (scripts, instructional videos, etc.), self-assessment can also be provided for exam preparation.

An overview of all Moodle activities & materials and their possible use cases can be found in the following table:

Suitability of activities and materials  [PDF/German]

With Moodle you can...

► ensure communication with and between students,

► provide materials centrally,

► promote collaboration & activation,

► evaluate tasks and assignments,

and thus create a virtual learning environment.

Moodle courses for teachers

All staff with access to the Moodle platform of the University of Graz can use a variety of self-study courses and templates.

This course is aimed at lecturers at the University of Graz and offers you an overview of many important aspects of teaching with digital technologies. The content is aimed at both beginners (e.g. with the Moodle basics) and advanced users. You will find instructions, videos and other resources in the individual sections.

Link to the course

To make it easier for you to work with Moodle, we have created several course templates (for the Topic and Tiles format) that you can use to design your own Moodle courses. Many possible Moodle activities are created and described in the structured templates. All activities can be individually adapted to the respective requirements of a course.

  • to the Moodle Template Course (German)
  • to the Moodle Template Course (English)
  • to the Moodle Template Course Tiles Format (German)
  • to the Moodle Template Course Tiles Format (English)

In this course, you can get to know all the activities and materials from the student perspective. We have created examples for each element so that you can get an idea of the underlying functionality.
